Staff of the National Pension Commission are incensed over the alleged invasion of their head office by operatives of the Department of State Services on Friday.
The alleged invasion was said to have taken place after director-general, Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, was served a letter of disengagement.
Anohu-Amazu and the commissioners of the agency were jointly disengaged.
The removal of the PenCom leadership was announced by the office of the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) on Thursday, April 13.
Members of the staff say that DSS operatives laid siege on the head office the same day the DG and commissioners were issued their letters of disengagement.
The DSS operatives were said to have ordered staff of the commission out of the premises and also frisked them on their way out to ensure that they did not leave with any official document.
Some members of staff told Pension Matters that Anohu-Amazu’s removal did not follow due process as it was done without prior notification as stipulated by section 21(1)(j) of the Pension Reform Act (PRA) 2014.
PenCom staff had threatened to go on strike in reaction to the removal of the DG and commissioners of the agency.
They also called on the president to reverse the action.
