It was a joyful celebration on Wednesday as Dolapo, wife of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, sang and read a story to Nigerian children in a surprise reading session hosted by The Destiny Trust, a child education and care charity.

Mrs. Osinbajo read excerpts from the book, Dalu’s Diary, written by Ogechi Ezeji.

She highlighted the moral lessons of integrity, hard work, adventure and nation building, while exploring the beauty of Nigeria’s geography, culture and people.

After the story reading, she had an interaction with the children, answering their questions about her childhood, what it takes to be great in life and and life as the spouse of Nigeria’s vice-president.

According to her, providing support as wife of the vice-president comes with great responsibilities apart from the privileges.

She encouraged children to take the opportunities offered them to attain greatness because they hold the power to a better future.

At the end of the story reading, the children offered to sing for Mrs. Osinbajo and passionately performed Timi Dakolo’s hit song, A Great Nation, reaffirming their determination to join in building the nation.

The Destiny Trust is focused on the education, empowerment and care of housing insecure children, orphans, internally-displaced children and other categories of young people at risk; children are provided shelter, daily feeding and care.

Every year, hundreds of out-of-school children are enrolled in schools and equipped with digital skills.

The foundation also works through community-based care and education initiatives targeted at disadvantaged children, who cannot be accommodated, under its in-centre care programmes.
