Don’t dodge accountability, PDP chieftain tells Akpabio over sexual harassment allegation

Mohammed Abdullahi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa, says Senate President Godswill Akpabio should address the sexual harassment allegation levelled against him.

Abdullahi said Akpabio should stop relying on what he described as “image launderers” to deflect attention from the serious accusations raised by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi central.

He criticised the involvement of Sandra Duru, also known as Professor Mgbake, who recently said Akpoti-Uduaghan had no evidence against Akpabio.

Abdullahi said Duru’s actions and contradictory statements exposed her as unreliable.

“Rather than defend himself with honour, Akpabio has chosen to hide behind people whose public records are smeared with controversy and criminal allegations,” Abdullahi said.

“It is unfortunate that a matter as sensitive and serious as sexual harassment is being reduced to a media circus.”

Abdullahi urged Akpabio to demonstrate courage and respond to the allegation with facts.

He said no one, regardless of position, should be above scrutiny or accountability.

On March 6, the senate suspended the Kogi central lawmaker after she had an altercation with Akpabio over seating arrangements.

On Sunday, Akpoti-Uduaghan issued a satirical apology letter to Akpabio on her Facebook page.

In the letter, the senator expressed “deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret” for “the grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect” in Akpabio’s presence.
