President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday warned university lecturers against academic corruption and inciting students.
Speaking at the 31st convocation ceremony and 40th anniversary of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), the president said his administration will not accept the exploitation or incitement of students to distabilise the system.
Represented by David Babachir, secretary to the government of federation, the president expressed the readiness of his administration to support the development of infrastructure in institutions.
He added that government will also support vocational studies and education reform as a means to ensure that graduates were fully employed.
Buhari advised the graduands to shun corruption and all forms of social vices as they “step out of the institution”.
On his part, President John Mahama of Ghana, who was among the guests at the occasion, advised African leaders to lay concrete foundation for the younger generation.
Mahama said the continent must appreciate its human resources and guide them to attain total freedom.
While eulogising past African leaders who fought for the liberation of the continent, the Ghanaian president criticised the likes of Idi-Amin of Uganda, Mobutu Sese Sekou of DR Congo (Zaire) for “ruling as if they would not die”.
He appealed to all the 54 countries that constitute the African Union to ensure that the aims and agenda of the union were achieved for younger generation to fulfill their destiny.
Abdulfatah Ahmed, governor of Kwara state, also announced that he had established the ‘Doctor Abdulfatah Ahmed Indigent support Fund’ to assist students of the institution from poor backgrounds.
Ahmed also donated N10 million to the UNILORIN’s department of physical sciences and life science.
