Don’t let killers divide you, El-Rufai tells Kaduna residents

Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, has condemned the killings in Gida Biyu,Akwa’a and Angwan Anjo communities in Jema’a local government area of the state, urging the people not to allow the assailants achieve their aim of “triggering division”.

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen killed 11 persons in attacks that took place between Monday and Tuesday.

Samuel Aruwan, spokesman of the governor, disclosed this in a statement, saying that a detachment of soldiers and police has been drafted to the communities.

“The Kaduna state government condemns the murders that were perpetrated by criminal elements that attacked our communities in Gida Biyu, Akwa’a and Angwan Anjo in Jema’a local government area,” the statement read.

“The governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, extends his condolence to the survivors and the families of the victims.

“The government has directed relevant officials to taken over the treatment of all those who were wounded. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is also mobilizing relief materials to the affected communities and persons, and will be taking an inventory of damage in the affected communities.

“The government commended security agencies for their prompt response in repelling the attackers, but it urges that active steps be taken to improve intelligence gathering so as to deter attacks and prevent any outbreak of violence in any of our communities.

“In this sad moment, the government requests that all residents of the state demonstrate solidarity, share each other’s pains and deny the attackers the pleasure of triggering division and acrimony, in addition to the vile murders they have committed.”
