Merseyside and north London derbies ended 1-1, but Chelsea continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reacted quickest in the penalty area to draw Arsenal level against Tottenham, as the season’s first north London derby ended in stalemate.

Spurs had taken the lead in the second half through Nacer Chadli, but Arsenal bounced back to salvage a point from the match.

Edin Dzeko scored a goal in each half as champions Manchester City recovered from losing a two-goal lead to beat Hull City 4-2 at the KC Stadium.

Early goals from Sergio Aguero and Dzeko put the visitors in front before Hull responded before half time, only for Dzeko and Frank Lampard to earn their side the points in the second period.

Graziano Pelle’s acrobatic volley gave Southampton a 2-1 win over QPR at St Mary’s.

On-loan defender Ryan Bertrand opened his Saints account to hand the hosts the lead before Charlie Austin blasted home on the turn.

Italian striker Pelle bettered Austin’s great finish, which secured Saints’ fourth win in six league ties this season.

Crystal Palace scored two second-half goals to beat Leicester City 2-0 at Selhurst Park.

Fraizer Campbell opened the scoring on 50 minutes, flicking home from close range after Scott Dann had connected with a Jason Puncheon corner.

Things got better for Palace just four minutes later as Mile Jedinak added a second by glancing a Puncheon free kick beyond the reach of Kasper Schmeichel.

Connor Wickham wasted a great opportunity to earn a first league win of the season for Sunderland against 10-man Swansea with the boring encounter ending 0-0.

The unmarked striker was picked out by Sebastian Larsson six yards from goal with 16 minutes of a cagey contest remaining, but he sent his header over the bar to let the Swans off the hook as the Black Cats had to settle for their fifth draw in six league games.
