A man has died after his vehicle crashed outside the White House, United States.

The Washington metropolitan police said it responded to reports of a crash Saturday evening.

The police said the vehicle rammed into a security barrier around the White House complex, adding that the adult male was pronounced dead on the scene.

“At this time, the incident is being investigated only as a traffic crash by MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit,” the police said in a statement.

The US Secret Service said the accident did not pose any threat.

“Security protocols were implemented as officers cleared the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the driver who was discovered deceased,” the Secret Service said.

Crashes into the White House are not rare.

In January 2024, a driver was taken into custody after crashing into the White House exterior gate.

The driver was believed to have had mental health challenges but the Secret Service said the crash did not pose any threat.

In May 2023, a U-Haul truck driver crashed into security barriers around Lafayette Square across the street from the White House.

The 19-year-old driver had a Nazi flag with him when he was arrested, according to court documents.

In 2019, the Secret Service said a driver tried to get into the White House complex by following an official vehicle through a gate.

Subsequently, the Secret Service started the construction of a 13-foot fence, which was more than double the size of the previous 6-foot fence.
