DSS detains Ezimakor, Abuja bureau chief of Daily Independent

The Department of State Service ( DSS) has detained Tony Ezimakor, the Abuja bureau chief of Daily Independent Newspaper for a yet to be discolsed reason.

Ezimakor walked into the headquarters of the service around 10:30am on Wednesday, following repeated phone calls from one Nochiri, an operative of the secret police.

He was accompanied by Jide Oyekunle, a photojournalist.

Oyekunle was allowed to leave the premises around 3pm but Ezimakor remained in custody of the service.

His family members have been unable to reach him while Douglas Ekahtor, the company’s lawyer, was denied access to the DSS headquarters on Wednesday night.

As of 10pm on Wednesday, the phones lines of the journalists were switched off.

A colleague of the detained journalist told TheCable that Ezimakor’s wife has been lamenting that her husband was not allowed to take along the drugs he has been using to suppress high blood pressure.
