Dumebi Kachikwu, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 elections, says the party is “being packaged” for the 2027 presidential bid of  Atiku Abubakar

Kachikwu spoke during an interview on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television.

Since the formal adoption of the ADC by the opposition politicians early this month, Kachikwu has been critical of the alliance.

Among the coalition leaders are Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, a former transportation minister; Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections; Nasir el-Rufai, former Kaduna governor; and John Oyegun, former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Others include Sule Lamido, ex-governor of Jigawa; Uche Secondus, former PDP national chairman; Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger state; Sam Egwu, former governor of Ebonyi; Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto; and Liyel Imoke, former governor of Cross River, among others.

Last week, Abubakar, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), resigned from the party. He is expected to officially join the ADC.

“The whole ADC structure is being packaged for the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar,” he said.

‘OBI PLANNING TO LEAVE ADC COALITION’

Kachikwu claimed that Obi is considering leaving the coalition to pursue his presidential ambition elsewhere.

“We can see what is happening within the coalition. Someone like Mr Peter Obi now understands that the whole coalition was packaged for Atiku Abubakar,” he said.

“From our understanding, what we are seeing now is that he is looking in other directions, and other people who aspire to run now realise that the coalition was indeed no coalition — it was just a vehicle for Atiku Abubakar’s ambition.

“The 2027 election will not give room for class exploitation by political leaders.”

The politician added that he will ensure Nigerians are “informed and educated” ahead of the 2027 elections.
