Dumebi Kachikwu, the 2023 presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused opposition parties of attempting to undermine the Bola Tinubu administration.
Kachikwu made the claims on Tuesday during his appearance on ‘This Morning’, a programme on TVC.
“I think that, as usual, Nigerian politicians are doing what they know best — which is acting ignorant,” he said.
“You have a government of the day in power who should set an agenda, who should follow through on the agenda.

“But, typically, what the opposition does is try to set a different agenda to derail or get the government of the day to lose focus.
“And I believe that this is what we’re seeing; and that’s why we see a lot happening in the political space. It’s way too early.
“I believe that men act like they are gods. A whole two years before the elections, all sorts of permutations are in play — all sorts of things are happening. We’ll see the same old playbook again happening in Nigeria.”

Kachikwu said a similar pattern of “political sabotage” played out during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
“Several years ago when Goodluck Jonathan was in office, the same thing was seen in the political space,” he said.
“They set an agenda for him. So essentially, it’s to get people disenchanted with the government of the day; for people to say the government of the day is not working or doing anything.
“And then there’s this big buildup going into the elections. This is the same thing we’re seeing today. But like I said yesterday, you can’t fool the people two times.”

He said Nigerians must recognise the political schemes at play and see through the antics of “desperate old politicians”.
“The people have got to see clearly through what’s going on. They should see clearly through the shenanigans of politicians, especially desperate old politicians,” he said.
“They should see through what they’re doing. They should know that Nigeria is bigger than the ambitions of these old men, and they should know that Nigeria is worth fighting for.”
On April 21, Adewole Adebayo, presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 election, said any genuine opposition in Nigeria must embody the struggles and aspirations of ordinary citizens.
