Football activities resumed across Europe last weekend with goals and reverting performances entertaining the fans of the game. 

Nigerian footballers were not left out of the net-bursting performances in Europe, with a few of them putting in significant displays for their various clubs.

TheCable takes a look at Nigerian footballers who made impacts for their respective clubs over the weekend.

In Italy, Napoli moved back to the summit of the Serie A after Osimhen rose highest in the 81st minute to power in the only difference as the Parthenopeans defeated Torino 1-0 on Sunday.

The 22-year-old striker has scored eight goals in nine matches for the Serie A toppers this season and remains among the league’s leading goalscorer.

Simy Nwankwo’s early goal for Salernitana proved too little as the club lost 2-1 to Spezia to stay rooted to the league’s bottom.

The lanky striker put the newly-promoted side ahead in the 39th minute after a loose ball in the area dropped into his path, and he skilfully rounded up the goalkeeper before finishing into an empty net. But the team could not hold on to the lead and suffered their sixth defeat of the season.

It was Nwankwo’s first goal for the club since his switch from relegated Crotone last summer.

In Germany, Taiwo Awoniyi continued his brilliant goalscoring form in the Bundesliga as Union Berlin defeated Wolfburg 2-0 to climb to fifth on the league table.

The Nigerian got the game’s first goal in the 49th minute after he was set free on goal, and he finished gracefully with a chip over the goalkeeper.

In Russia, Chidera Ejuke’s curler in the 59th minute was the only difference as CSKA Moscow secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC Ural.
