Nigeria U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, opened their CAF African Youth Championship campaign with a 3-1 win over host Senegal at the Stade Leopold Senghor.

Taiwo Awoniyi put his side ahead in the 10th minute. He doubled the lead few minutes later after beating goalkeeper Seydou Sy and a defender to the ball.

Sidy Sarr pulled one back for the host, but Ifeanyi Matthew restored the two-goal cushion for the Flying Eagles who now meet Congo in their next match on March 11 at the same venue.

Their final group game will be against Cote d’Ivoire on March 14 at the Stade Caroline Faye.
