The march of Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets to the 2015 U-17 African Junior Championship in Niger in February got off to a bright start when they defeated hosts DR Congo 1-0 in the second round first leg qualifier in Kinshasa on Saturday.
Victor Osimhen’s 13th minute strike was all the Nigeria youngsters needed to win the match.
The result was a bit kind to the hosts, as the Eaglets could not convert their numerous chances to extend the lead.
The return leg will be played in Calabar in a fortnight, with the winner meeting winner of the game between Ethiopia and Gabon in the final round.
