Anthony Joshua, UK-based boxer born to Nigerian parents, has revealed that eating Nigerian staple, eba and egusi is the secret to his success.

He disclosed this to Oma Akatugba, sports journalist and CEO of Sportsbrand.

“Very humbled and not just for myself, but for the people that have worked with me, so it is important that I can only repay by achieving things in the ring,” he said.

“My heart is with Nigeria, my heart is with Britain, I’m a Nigerian by blood, yes… Eating eba with egusi is the secret of  success.”

Talking about his connection with Nigeria, the heavyweight champion said he would meet the governor of his state back in Nigeria to help the people.

“I’m even trying out to get to meet the governor, and go and get something back to Nigeria, even though we do small things for the country between my family and my mother, we help out the village she came from and If I could do more on a large scale, I’ll definitely come down there and associate myself more with Nigeria,” he said.

Your comment..It is good that you still associate with Nigeria. But please allow your heart to be with the British & your “mind” to be wit Nigeria. If you have grown up in Nigeria you may not have lived to realise your dream. A country where money meant for the masses becomes orphaned.

Great and humble man. Wish him more success in his boxing career. Clearly a man who knows, values and respects his roots. As a mum my heart is expanding with pride for him and his mum and whole family.
    Kudos

The kid is right to always have his heart with Nigeria. Despite all the problems associated with Nigeria (mostly created by the greed of colonialists, especially Britain) Nigeria continues to grow and thrive. Let Joshua learn to respect his roots. It will always serve him well.
