Ebola spreads to Senegal

Senegal has joined the list of countries where cases of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) have been recorded.

Until Friday, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo where two cases of Ebola were recently confirmed, where the five countries known to have been affected by the disease.

But addressing reporters on Friday, Awa Marie Coll Seck, Senegalese minister of health, said a young man from Guinea was confirmed to have the virus.

Senegal shares land border with Guinea, where the disease broke out in February.

On Thursday, the World Health Organisation (WHO), stated that an estimated 20, 000 people might contract the virus before it is finally eliminated.

While the disease has claimed more than 1,500 casualties, about 3,000 people have been affected by Ebola, which kills nine out of 10 people that gets afflicted by it.
