The Ebonyi state command of the Nigeria police force has arrested a gang of kidnap suspects operating in different parts of the state.

According to Chris Anyanwu, the command’s spokesman, the suspects were arrested during various operations and the items recovered from them include AK-47 riffle, live ammunition and the sum of N940, 000.

He said a Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration number KPP 224, Sports Utility Van (SUV) with registration No. KSF 576 CWl, a Toyota Camry car, an ML 320 Mercedes Benz jeep and SIM cards of different GSM service providers were also recovered from the suspects.

He said the operation that led to the arrest of the culprits was made possible by a reliable intelligence report received by the police.

According to him, some of the suspects were arrested at their residence, while others were picked outside their places of abode.

The leader of the gang confessed to committing the crime, and said that he resorted to kidnapping after he lost his parents.

The only woman in the gang said she joined the group through her husband, who was serving a jail term in Enugu.
