Edin for the title!

Edin for the title!

Edin Dzeko has promised Manchester City fans there will be no repeat of the torture that almost saw them miss out on the title two years ago.

City’s 4-0 win at home to Aston Villa means they need just a point on Sunday against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium to become champions.

The memories of their dramatic last-gasp win against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the 2011-12 season — when they came back from 2-1 down with two stoppage-time goals to snatch the title from Manchester United — still fresh in the memory, Dzeko says the players will get the job done early this time.

“We’ll go for the win because we know what happened two years before,” Dzeko told the BBC.

“We have experience with that, with Queens Park Rangers when everyone thought we’ll win it easy, maybe in the first half. It was the worst game for the fans they will ever see. Now, we’ll take it very seriously and try to finish it earlier.”

City took their Premier League tally to 100 goals for the season on Wednesday, becoming just the second team in the competition’s history to do so after Chelsea in 2009-10.

“It’s amazing to score 100 goals in the league and 154 in all competitions,” Dzeko added.

“That shows we did well this season, and are trying to play aggressive and attacking football. It’s amazing for the fans to watch us.”

Dzeko paid glowing tribute to the man who hit the 100-goal mark, Yaya Toure, with what has become a trademark bulldozing run and deadly finish.

“I was already on the bench so when you see it from the side, like five players just trying to catch him up and they can’t come even close to him, it’s amazing,” he added.

“He’s a very important player for us. He’s scored so many goals as a defensive midfielder, [and]  that shows his qualities.”
