Daniel Okungbowa, the chief judge of Edo, has constituted an appellate team to handle petitions from the LG elections tribunal in the state.

On September 2, 2023, the Edo Independent Electoral Commission (ESIEC) conducted the LGA elections, with candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winning all 18 chairperson seats in the state.

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of the state, had expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the elections, noting that the voting process was peaceful and voters were duly sensitised.

However, the Labour Party (LP) kicked against the exercise, alleging irregularities in the election.

LP subsequently dragged the PDP to court. However, its petitions were dismissed, with the court upholding the victories of the candidates of the ruling party.

In a new development on Wednesday, Benson Osazuwa, the court’s registrar, said the three-man committee constituted by the CJ would be chaired by Emmanuel Ahamioje, while Nekpen Asemota and Nogi Imoukhuede would serve as members.
