Alasa Idaro Mohammed, chair of the Etsako west LGA in Edo north senatorial district, says leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the region have endorsed Clem Agba, a former minister of budget and national planning, as their gubernatorial candidate.

A statement quoted Mohammed as saying Agba was adopted after a meeting was convened in Jattu, a town in the district.

The LGA chair said the meeting was convened to discuss and reach a consensus on who would be supported for the party’s ticket ahead of the governorship election in 2024.

“The immediate past minister of state for budget and national planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, should be supported to win the party’s ticket and to become the next governor of the state,” he said.

“Agba has more than 76 verifiable capital projects that he facilitated for Edo State during his tenure as a minister.”

On his part, Suleiman Bagudu, a former chair of Etsako central LGA, said Agba’s nomination as the party’s standard bearer would be a “game changer” for the APC during the elections.

“Agba was eminently qualified to occupy the position of Edo state governor,” he said.

Also speaking at the meeting, Sufianu Igafe, a former chair of Owan east LGA, said Agba has the requisite qualifications to become governor.

“Everyone [should] see and key into the project and engage in the process that would eventually see him through,” Igafe was quoted as saying.

Agba hails from Estako east LGA in Edo north senatorial district.
