An awaiting-trial inmate at Oko Medium Prison escaped from the premises of state high court in Benin, Edo state capital, on Wednesday morning.

The inmate was to be tried before the incident happened.

A prison official told NAN that warders had gone after the inmate.

Aminu Suleiman, spokesman for the Edo command of the Nigerian Prison Services (NPS), said he was not in a position to speak on the issue.
