The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has arraigned one Adamu Jiyaba for allegedly impersonating a director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to a statement by the EFCC on Tuesday, Jiyaba was arraigned before a federal high court sitting in Nasarawa.
He was accused of impersonating Robert Mueller, a former director of the FBI.
Mueller was the sixth director of the FBI and served from September 2001 to September 2013.
Jiyaba was arraigned before N.I. Afolabi, judge of the federal high court sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa capital.
“That you, Adamu Yayaha Jiyaba, sometime in 2022 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court attempted to commit an offence to wit: imputed a data that you are Robert S. Muller, the FBI Director with the intention that such inauthentic data will be considered or acted upon and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 13 of the Cybercrime (Provision, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Section of the Act,” the charge sheet reads.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The matter has been adjourned till October 26 and 27, 2022 for commencement of trial.
Meanwhile, Jiyaba has been remanded in the Lafia correctional centre.
