EFCC arrests Chinese national for ‘illegal mining’ in Ilorin

Gang Deng, a 29-year-old Chinese, has been arrested for alleged illegal mining in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The Chinese miner was arrested by the Ilorin zonal command of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement on Saturday, Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesperson, said Deng was arrested on Friday and was found to be in possession of solid minerals.

“A truck load of minerals suspected to be lepidolite was recovered from him,” Uwujaren said.

“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

In the last few years, several Chinese miners have been arrested for illegal mining across different parts of the country.

In 2020, ten Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian were arrested by the joint task force (JTF) and Amotekun corps for illegal mining in Osun state.
