EFCC arrests man over ‘currency racketeering’ in Enugu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one Ekene Ibegbu over alleged racketeering of more than N1.5 million.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, in a statement on Saturday, said the suspect was arrested by members of the special task force of the commission attached to the Enugu command on Thursday on the Owerri-Enugu road.

He said the arrest was sequel to actionable intelligence about the suspect’s involvement in currency racketeering.

“He would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.

In a related development, the anti-graft agency also arrested five suspected internet fraudsters in Benue state.

Oyewale said the suspects were arrested on Friday at kansho village in the Makurdi LGA of Benue.

“The suspects are Shima Francis, Ode Jesse, Odey Linus, Kingsley Obinna and Emmanuel Inaleguwu,” he said.

“Items recovered from them are one iPhone and five android phones.

“They suspects would  be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
