Umar Isa, former chief finance officer (CFO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), says he was not arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $7.2 billion refinery fraud.
In a statement on Wednesday, isa said contrary to circulating reports, he voluntarily honoured an invitation by the EFCC.
“Nobody arrested me for any $7.2 billion in relation to any refinery fraud,” the statement reads.
“I voluntarily submitted myself for questioning to the EFCC and thereafter I went home. To see in the media of stories of my arrest over fraud is unfortunate.”

Isa said he served at NNPCL and exited with his integrity intact.
“Nobody has accused me of any fraud throughout my sojourn at the company. People who are pushing this false narrative of arrests and detention just want to tarnish my reputation,” he said.
“I am in this country and any day and anytime the EFCC requests me to appear before them I will be present.”

He is reportedly under investigation along with other former officials of the NNPCL for alleged abuse of office, among other allegations.
“Others under investigation include Tunde Bakare, managing director of Warri Refinery; Ahmed Adamu Dikko, former managing director of Port Harcourt Refinery; and Ibrahim Monday Onoja, former managing director of Port Harcourt Refinery,” a source said.
