Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have withdrawn from Mamman Nasir street, Asokoro, Abuja, where they clashed with some Department of State Services (DSS) operatives on Tuesday morning.

The secret police had prevented the anti-graft agency from arresting Ita Ekpeyong, former director-general of DSS, and Ayo Oke, sacked director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

EFCC had invited Ekpeyong over his alleged role in the arms scam involving Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA).

While Oke was summoned over the $43 million discovered in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Following their refusal to honour the invitation, officials of the commission stormed the residences of the former heads of the agencies but were prevented from gaining access to the compounds.

Both Oke and Ekpeyong reside on the street.

After a heated argument, the EFCC retreated and cordoned off all roads leading to the property with a yellow tape which bore the words, ‘crime scene, do not cross’.

Residents groaned as they bore the brunt of the showdown between the two agencies.

When TheCable visited the street on Wednesday morning, the EFCC officials and police officers were no longer there.

People moved freely while vehicles were seen at different parts of the street.

But armed DSS operatives were seen at Ekpeyong’s residence.
