The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed off a property belonging to Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano.

The property is situated on Miller road in Kano metropolis.

Kwankwaso, a two-term governor of Kano, represented Kano central senatorial district between 2015 and 2019.

The decision of the EFCC to seal off the property is said to be the result of a petition sent to the anti-graft agency by some family members of Ismaila Gwarzo, a former national security adviser during the late Sani Abacha administration.

Reliable sources said Abdullahi Gwarzo, popularly known as Baban Gandu, former managing director of the defunct Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) in Kano, allegedly sold the property to Kwankwaso but failed to remit the money to the family.

The state had, earlier in the year, announced the scrapping of REMASAB and said a private company would be engaged by the government for refuse management.

Several houses belonging to the former REMASAB MD, located at Gwarzo town, Danbare, Bompai, among others, have also been sealed off by the anti-graft agency.

Nine bank accounts belonging to Gwarzo are also said to have been frozen.

A source at the EFCC confirmed that the anti-graft agency is also investigating a petition filed against the former REMASAB MD, but it isn’t yet clear what the allegations against Gwarzo are.
