The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun a hunt for Ugonna, son of Diezani Alison-Madueke, former minister of petroleum, in connection with money paid to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the buildup to the presidential election.

According to the Punch, the EFCC is searching for Ugonna in connection with money, as he was allegedly the middleman between the ex-minister and the bank MD of Fidelity Bank.

“We have launched a manhunt for Ugonna, who the suspects said was the one who drew up a list of individuals, who should be given the N23bn ($115m),” it quoted a senior EFCC official as saying.

“We don’t know exactly where he is but we will get him. He needs to explain his role in the sharing of the money because the bank officials have been mentioning his name since they were brought in.”

Ugonna heads the business development and commercial marketing at Radam Maritime Services Limited owned by his father, Alison Madueke, a former chief of naval staff.

The father is also being investigated by the EFCC alleged money laundering.

Fidelity Bank Plc released a statement on Thursday to maintain that it broke no law in the transactions, for which the managing director, Nnamdi Nwankwo, is also being quizzed by EFCC.

It said the transactions were “duly reported” as required by regulators.
