Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP)
Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), says elements behind the killings in Plateau state will soon receive the “surprise” of their lives.
Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to the state, Egbetokun said the “days of the attackers are numbered”.
The police IGP lamented that the violence has negatively impacted farming activities in the state.
He called for unity among citizens, urging communities to avoid ethnic profiling when responding to crimes.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms these acts of violence. We recognise the severity of the incident. And its negative impact on the local farming communities in Plateau state,” Egbetokun said.
“I don’t want to say much on this, but I would say that these criminal elements will soon be surprised because I know that their days are numbered.
“I want to appeal to our people that we should not profile criminals based on their ethnicities. We must stop ethnic profiling of criminals.

“Criminals must be dealt with as criminals. Criminals don’t have tribes. They are just criminals. Let us work together to ensure that the criminals in our midst are dealt with as criminals and not on the basis of where they come from.”
There has been an uptick in gunmen attacks across the country, with more than 100 people killed in Plateau in the last fortnight.
