Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Austin Eguavoen, has expressed his desire to become the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Gombe United manager has also urged his former colleagues in the national team to look beyond coaching and get involved in the administration of the game in the country.
“I have the aspiration to be the president or vie for any other position in the federation. It could happen soon,” he told reporters.
“With my experience in the game garnered over the years, hiring a coach will not be much of a big deal because I’m knowledgeable in these things. Amaju is also a robust football administrator and he knows his way round the game.”
Eguavoen, who played for the Super Eagles between 1986 and 1998, started his coaching career in 2000 with Sliema Wanderers of Malta.
He has managed Bendel Insurance, Nigeria U20 team, the Super Eagles (2005-2007 and as caretaker coach in 2010), Black Leopards of South Africa, Enyimba, Nigeria U23 team, Sharks, COD United, and Bendel Insurance before joining Gombe in 2014.
Now, he wants to push his career further.
“It’s not about always returning to take up coaching jobs. I will also like to see my colleagues take that step.”
