Eguavoen resigns as coach of Sunshine Stars — after 46 days in charge

Augustine Eguavoen has resigned as head coach of Sunshine Stars of Akure.

A statement by the club on Friday confirmed the exit of the former Super Eagles gaffer.

“Our management has received and accepted the disengagement notice of coach Austin Eguavoen. The Club appreciates the coach for his time with us,” read a tweet on Sunshine Stars’ Twitter handle.

“The Club wish Austin Eguavoen the best for the future.

“In view of the development the management has appointed former assistant coach Akin Olowookere as the Interim head coach.

“The former junior international will be assisted by coach Ogunderu Boye. The appointment takes immediate effect.”

Eguavoen, who was unveiled on April 25, was in charge of the Akure-based side for five Nigeria Professional Football League matches.

The former Super Eagles captain won two and lost three games.

His last game in charge of Sunshine was on Wednesday, a 2-1 loss at home to league leaders Plateau United.

Sunshine occupy the 17th spot on the NPFL table.
