Azubuike Egwuekwe has dedicated his latest goal in the Finnish Veikkausliiga to Stephen Keshi, former coach of the Super Eagles, who died on Wednesday.

Egwuekwe scored for Kuopion Palloseura in Sunday’s encounter with PK-35 Vantaa, heading home in the 54th minute ‎to put the visitors in the lead in the Week 14 game.

After the match, the gangling defender told Thecable he hadn’t overcome the shock of Keshi’s death.

“I am dedicating this goal‎ to the man I still find difficult to believe is no more, Stephen Keshi,” he said.

“Keshi was a father and brother to me. He gave me the chance to show what I could do on the field of play when no one was ready to do that with me.

“He believed in me and was always encouraging me and urging me that I could take my game to ‎a higher level, so I am dedicating this goal to him. ‎It is for him. For everything he has done for me while alive.”

Egwuekwe has scored five league goals for KuPs FC so far in this season.
