The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly killed eight Boko Haram terrorists in a clash in Borno.
ISWAP is a factional group that broke out of Boko Haram over leadership disagreement.
According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the two terror groups clashed on Thursday in the Krinowa axis of Marte.
ISWAP was said ti have laid an ambush for the Boko Haram terrorists.
Goni Gado, Abou Adam and Abou Abubakar were said to be three Boko Haram members who escaped with bullet wounds.
ISWAP was also said to have seized large quantities of ammunition from Boko Haram.
Zagazola Makama quoted a source to have said the Boko Haram had dispatched a 12-man team from Gaizuwa in Bama to go in search of weapons after suffering losses from the sustained air strikes carried out by troops of operation Hadin Kai.
The defeat had reportedly opened up the Boko Haram group to attacks from ISWAP group led by Ba’ana Chigori.
According to Zagazola Makama, Boko Haram leadership held a brief meeting and dispatched another team of 11 fighters led by one Amir Baba Kaka to seek support from Amir Jaichige in the axis of Mandara mountains.
“The Boko Haram had cried out that the ISWAP may soon take over all its camps very soon and urged other JAS fighters to help them from collapsing,” the source was quoted to have said.
The battlefield rivalry between the two terrorist groups spiked when Abubakar Shekau, leader of Boko Haram, was killed in a clash with ISWAP in 2021.
On September 7, ISWAP attacked a group of Boko Haram fighters fleeing from an operation carried out by troops of operation Hadin Kai in Bama LGA.
Barely two weeks later, 29 insurgents were also killed during a clash between ISWAP and Boko Haram.
