The Ekiti house of assembly on Thursday removed Adesegun Adewumi, deputy speaker for alleged gross misconduct.

The house also removed Akinniyi Sunday, its chef whip.

Adewumi was removed after a motion moved by Akinyele Olatunji, house leader, and seconded by Olayanju Olanrewaju.

The speaker of the assembly, Kola Oluwawole, said that 18 members of the assembly signed the notice of impeachment of the deputy speaker in accordance with section 92 (2c) of the 1999 constitution, as amended.

Members present at the plenary unanimously agreed that Adewumi had exhibited a high level of disloyalty and unpatriotism and as such, should be impeached.
