Christopher Ekpenyong, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, has been sworn in as the senator representing Akwa Ibom north-west.

The oath of office was administered on Ekpenyong by Musa Abdullahi, deputy clerk of the senate, after Senate President Ahmad Lawan called for it.

The PDP candidate was first sworn in June after he defeated Godswill Akpabio, former senate minority leader, in the general election that was held in February.

But Akpabio challenged the declaration of Ekpenyong as the winner of the poll at the tribunal and at the appeal court.

In November, the appeal court ordered a rerun poll. Ekpenyong won the rerun election that took place on January 25.
