The Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc has commiserated with the families of those electrocuted after a faulty power line caught fire at Kabong, Gada Biyu in the Jos north LGA of Plateau state.

The early-morning Saturday fire incident, which claimed six lives and destroyed properties, was said to have started from a high-tension cable at about 3 a.m.

Istifanus John, sole administrator of the LGA, confirmed that six out of eight people electrocuted died.

Friday Elijah, corporate communications head at JED Plc, in a statement issued to commiserate with families of victims, said an evaluation of the causes of the incident would be conducted.

He added that appropriate measures would be put in place to forestall future occurrences.

“We express our deepest sympathies to families who have encountered losses as a result of this incident,” he said.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was a result of a high-tension line snap onto the low-tension lines which resulted in a voltage supply outside limits.

“The source feeder tripped off and inter-tripped the transmission end source from Makeri transmission station.

“We will continue to be monitoring the situation closely and communicate the facts of this regrettable incident.”
