Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, former ‘world’s heaviest woman’, dies

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, an Egyptian once believed to be the world’s heaviest woman, has died in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The woman had lost more than 300kg (660lb) of her 500kg but died from complications from other health conditions.

According to BBC, Abd El Aty had been in Abu Dhabi since May, following a specialist surgery in Mumbai, India.

She was able to geta chartered aircraft for the surgery after her sister launched an online campaign, but she was transferred again after her family fell out with a medical team managing her health condition in India.

Abd El Aty had not left her house for 25 years, before her surgery in India.

A statement by the hospital said the 37-year-old had heart disease and kidney dysfunction.

“Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to her family,” read a statement issued by the hospital where she died.
