Emmanuel Emenike, Super Eagles striker, is the latest celebrity victim of impersonation and hacking.

The striker said on Wednesday that someone infiltrated his e-mail and attempted to carry out fraudulent acts with the account.

Emenike, who plays professional football for Turkish side, Fernabache, said the hacker(s), while impersonating him, “asked banks to send them money”.

The fraudulent email reads:

Kindly confirm if it has arrived. Also please confirm to me the exact balance on the account.

I need to make a transfer instruction today. Please get back to me as soon as possible.”

The e-mail was signed with his name and sent to a certain Nevzat Yidrim while the subject was “funds transfer”.

Emenike joins the list of several Nigerian celebrities who have suffered internet impersonation and hacking.

Wizkid’s Twitter account was hacked a day before his birthday in 2015. One of the tweets posted reads: “25, single and enjoying life”.

At the time, the singer was believed to be in a relationship with Tania Omotayo, hence the tweets raised eyebrows.

Ahead of the 2015 women’s world cup in Canada, several suicidal posts appeared on the social media account of Asisat Oshoala, a Super Falcon forward.

The footballer was forced to alert her fans that she was alright when the posts became increasingly alarming.

“Yes, my acct. was hacked. I’m doing great and training with my other Super Falcons… and there is no stopping us. Thank u for the love/concern. I’m ready for this world cup”, she wrote.

Some of the other Nigerian celebrities who have been victims of hacking, include D’banj, Don Jazzy, 2face Idibia, Ruggedman, Flavour and Yemi Alade.
