Emir’s son killed as gunmen attack farm in Niger

Bashar Namaska, son of Sa’idu Namaska, Emir of Kotangora in Niger state, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits.

The Niger police command confirmed the incident, which took place on Thursday.

Namaska was said to have been on his father’s farm at Lioji village in Kotangora LGA, when the gunmen attacked him and two other persons.

He was reportedly shot on his left arm, but died after he was taken to a health centre.

The two other persons with him were said to have sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

Adamu Usman, Niger commissioner of police, narrated the incident to NAN.

“On May 20, at about 1500 hours, armed men suspected to be bandits went to the Emir of Kontagora’s farm close to Lioji village, shot Namaska on his left hand and he was taken to a clinic in Kontagora where he later died,” Usman said.

“The two men from Magama local government area of the state, are receiving treatment at Kontagora general hospital.”

The police commissioner added that adequate security measures have been put in place to fish out the criminals and prevent recurrence.

He also appealed to the residents of the state to volunteer reliable information that can assist in apprehending criminal elements in the state.
