Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, says the curfew imposed on the state may be lifted before Saturday.

The governor had ordered a 24-hour curfew, citing rising violence as a result of the #EndSARS protest.

Speaking on Thursday in an interview with Arise TV, Sanwo-Olu said the decision to ease the curfew is to allow residents get food supplies and access essential services.

“Once we see the streets are cleared up and all the agitation and high nerves have gone down, we might slow down the curfew by tomorrow (Friday) or next tomorrow (Saturday) at the latest,” the governor said.

On Tuesday, soldiers opened fire on protesters who had converged on the toll gate to protest against police brutality.

Following the shooting, the violent attacks that had rocked the state prior to Tuesday escalated, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.

Government buildings, media houses and private residences were vandalised in the attacks by hoodlums in the state on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu has blamed “forces beyond his direct control” for the Tuesday attack on #EndSARS protesters.
