Ensure NNPC becomes driver of economy, Tinubu tells Ojulari in birthday message

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Bayo Ojulari, group chief executive officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, on his 60th birthday.

In a statement on Tuesday by the presidency, Tinubu praised Ojulari for his “transformative leadership” in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Tinubu described the oil industry veteran as “an accomplished energy professional whose distinguished career has been defined by transformative and visionary leadership.”

Before assuming office as GCEO of the NNPC in April 2025, Ojulari held executive roles at Renaissance Africa Energy Company, and served as managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) from 2015 to 2021.

The president said he is confident Ojulari would continue to reposition the NNPC as a “transparent, world-class national energy company”, capable of delivering energy security and economic growth for Nigeria.

Tinubu also highlighted recent improvements in Nigeria’s oil production “under Ojulari’s leadership”, noting an increase from 1.5 million barrels per day to 1.7 million barrels per day within two months.

He expressed optimism that the country would hit its 1.9 million barrels per day target by year-end.
