Chidera Emerenini, chief innovation officer of Appi Technologies, says the impact of the recent #EndSARS protests across the country is a triumph for technology.

In October, Nigerians had taken to the streets to protest against police brutality under the #EndSARS campaign.

Emerenini, in a statement issued on Monday, said the use of technology to organise the demonstrations helped to ensure smooth running of activities at protest grounds.

“Anyone still doubting how much can be achieved through strategic deployment of IT solution is living in denial. The technological leverage on the protests is a hint of what can be achieved when we decide to embrace IT solutions across board,” he said.

“The nationwide mobilisation, daily agenda setting, viral messaging and more importantly global attention were all curated through different applications.”

Appi Technologies had supported the protesters with food packs and other materials, a development that Emerenini described as an offshoot of the traction generated by the protests.

“The impact which drew responses from various stakeholders could set the tone for how technology would be used in the future to drive home demands and set agenda for government and democratic processes,” the entrepreneur said.

“The technological impact has already driven the government to propose regulation of the social media going forward. But irrespective of the way the proposed bill goes, it is an admittance in disguise of the impact and future potential of IT solutions altering the established and conventional democratic processes.”

Appi Solution has led corporations to analyse, build and deploy winning information technology strategies, specifically aimed at widening local and international reach.
