Vincent Enyeama has announced his retirement from the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Enyeama, who has a record 101 caps for Nigeria, had a major falling out with Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh after Ahmed Musa was named the team’s new captain.

The Lille goalkeeper took to his Instagram page to announce his retirement from the national team.

“I have fought a good fight for more than 13 years.I have finished my course, I have kept the faith and sung the anthem with passion. Henceforth, there is laid for me a crown which only GOD can reward me for my 13 years of national services. God bless Nigeria. From henceforth, I am no more the captain of the Nigerian senior football team.

“I am no more the goalie of the team. I am out of the team. I am no more available for international duties. I want to say thank you to every Nigerian fan and supporter worldwide. It’s been the most trying period of my life, but I know that Nigerians are there for me and God is with me. God bless Nigeria. #Endofanera.”

Enyeama made his debut for the Nigeria against Kenya in May 2002 and was selected for the 2002 FIFA World Cup as a cover for Ike Shorunmu.

He made his competitive debut in that tournament, keeping a clean sheet against England in the third group match.

Since the retirement of Shorunmu, he has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the national team, helping the Super Eagles to third-place finishes in the 2004, 2006, 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, and captaining the team to victory of in the 2013 edition.

He has also participated in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, and the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
