The 2020-21 English Premier League (EPL) season will kick off on September 12, while the final round of matches will be held on May 23, the league announced on Friday.

The EPL stakeholders, which consist of the 20 current clubs, reached the decision during a conference call after which a statement was released.

It also confirmed that the Championship, League One and League Two will start the same weekend.

The Premier League said it would “continue to consult” with the Football Association and English Football League (EFL) “regarding the scheduling of all domestic competitions”.

“The Premier League will continue to consult The FA and EFL regarding the scheduling of all domestic competitions.”

The current campaign will come to an end on Sunday — over two months later than scheduled after a 100-day shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool FC were recently crowned the 2019/20 champions for the first time since 1990.
