Arsenal won a six-goal classic against Chelsea, defeating the Blues 4-2 in their English Premier League (EPL) midweek clash at the Stamford Bridge.

The topsy-turvy encounter saw Arsenal surrender the lead twice before scoring two second-half goals to secure the three points vital to their top-four push.

Eddie Nketiah scored twice for Arsenal with Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka adding further goals while Timo Werner and Cesar Azpilicueta were on target for Chelsea as the Gunners made it three matches at Stamford Bridge without defeat.

Arsenal took the lead in the 13th-minute, with Nketiah pouncing on a short back pass to slot beyond Edouard Mendy, Chelsea goalkeeper. But the hosts restored parity four minutes later through Werner’s strike.

A well-worked team move led to Arsenal regaining the lead through Smith-Rowe in the 27th minute. But Azpilicueta was on hand to make it 2-2 before the interval.

Nketiah, the former Chelsea academy youngster, made it 3-2 before the hour mark while Saka sealed the 4-2 victory at the death from a penalty kick awarded following a foul on him.

Arsenal’s impressive win sees Mikel Arteta’s side move to 57 points from 32 matches, level with Tottenham.

Manchester City also regained its top spot on the EPL log following a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium.

Second-half strikes from Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva were enough to send Man City to 77 points, one ahead of Liverpool with six matches left in the EPL title chase.

  • Chelsea 2-4 Arsenal
  • Newcastle United 1-0 Crystal Palace
  • Everton 1-1 Leicester City
  • Manchester City 3-0 Brighton & Hove Albion
