EPL: Arsenal beat Liverpool to keep title hopes alive as Chelsea lose at home

Arsenal scored twice in the second half to secure a deserved 3-1 win over Liverpool in their English Premier League (EPL) clash on Sunday.

All four goals were scored by Arsenal, no thanks to Gabriel’s own goal. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard ensured Arsenal’s win over Liverpool.

In the 200th EPL meeting between both sides, it was Arsenal that took the lead through Saka who scored from a rebound after Alisson Becker, Liverpool goalkeeper, saved Kai Havertz’s shot.

Miscommunication between David Raya and William Saliba for Arsenal led to the ball hitting Gabriel into the net to allow Liverpool to go into the break level at 1-1.

Liverpool returned the favour in the second half as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson misjudged a long ball to allow Martinelli to slot into an unguarded net on 67 minutes.

Alisson then allowed Trossard’s shot to go through his legs in added time for Arsenal to seal all three points.

The defeat is Liverpool’s first in seven matches away from home, while Arsenal are now unbeaten in four consecutive league matches against Liverpool for the first time since 2016.

Arsenal move up to second place with 49 points from 23 matches, cutting Liverpool’s lead at the top to two points.

Elsewhere, Manchester United defeated West Ham United 3-0 while Chelsea were consigned to a demoralising 4-2 defeat to Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
