Gabriel Martinelli scored a late goal as Arsenal defeated Manchester City in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Brazilian winger was a halftime substitute and he struck the decisive blow for Mikel Arteta’s men in the early race at the top of the league.

Bukayo Saka was not on the team list for the first time this season and Martinelli started on the bench, while City continued to miss Kevin de Bruyne.

Martinelli would eventually bring the match the much-needed goal when his strike took a huge deflection off Nathan Ake’s head before landing in the net, much to the joy of the Arsenal faithful.

The win moved Arsenal joint-top with Tottenham, both on 20 points from eight matches, while Man City dropped to third, two points adrift.

In the other matches of the day, Liverpool and Newcastle United were held to 2-2 draws in their respective encounters.

Mohamed Salah scored both goals as Brighton held the Reds, while West Ham United struck late through Mohammed Kudus to deny Newcastle all three points.
