Arsenal suffered a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Villa Park on Saturday.

The North London side could not break down a resolute Villa side that has an impeccable home record.

Aston Villa defeated champions Manchester City on Wednesday and repeated the trick against Arsenal by the same scoreline to announce themselves as potential title contenders.

The Villains made a blistering start to the match and deservedly took the lead in seven minutes when McGinn controlled Leon Bailey’s cutback before slamming a shot into the net.

Arsenal searched for a way back into the game but resolute defending and the goalkeeper foiled the visitors.

Kai Havertz’s goal in the 89th minute was disallowed for a handball by the German as Aston Villa sealed a memorable 1-0 win over the Gunners.

The victory handed Aston Villa a record-breaking 15th consecutive league win at home, extending from last season as Unai Emery’s team has won all eight EPL matches at home this term.

They move up to third on the EPL table with 35 points from 16 matches, one behind Arsenal who dropped to second place.

Liverpool were the big winners on the day despite needing a late goal to earn another comeback victory against Crystal Palace in the first match of the day.

On a day Mohamed Salah scored his 200th Liverpool goal in all competitions, the Reds’ 2-1 win sees them replace Arsenal at the top of the EPL table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have 37 points from 16 matches, one ahead of the Gunners.

Manchester United were however roundly defeated 3-0 at home by Bournemouth who recorded their first-ever win at Old Trafford.

  • Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Nottingham Forest
  • Manchester United 0-3 Bournemouth
  • Sheffield United 1-0 Brentford
  • Brighton 1-1 Burnley
  • Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal
