Aston Villa earned a shock 1-0 win over Manchester City in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Villa Park on Wednesday night.

The home side fully deserved their shock win over the EPL Champions who produced an uncharacteristic lackluster performance during the encounter.

The breakthrough goal for Villa came with 16 minutes left on the clock through a deflected Leon Bailey strike that hit Ruben Dias before nestling into the net.

The loss means Pep Guardiola’s side have now gone four EPL matches without a win for the first time in over seven years.

They also drop to fourth place, six points behind leaders Arsenal who won 4-3 at Luton on Tuesday.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, leapfrog Man City into third with the win, garnering 32 points from 15 matches, two ahead of their opponent.

Elsewhere, the battle of the struggling clubs ended with Manchester United defeating Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford, thanks to a brace from Scott McTominay.

The Old Trafford side gave the home fans an improved performance on a night they amassed 28 shots, with McTominay putting them ahead on 19 minutes before sealing the win at the back post on 69 minutes. Cole Palmer had equalized for Chelsea on the stroke of halftime.

Liverpool also won 2-0 at Sheffield United to tighten their grip on second place, cutting Arsenal’s lead to two points.
