‎Bruno Fernandes scored a last-gasp winner to hand Manchester United a 3-2 win over Burnley in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Days after an embarrassing second-round exit in the Carabao Cup at fourth-tier Grimsby, it was Fernandes who secured the Red Devils’ first win of the season, saving manager Ruben Amorim from further scrutiny going into the international break.

An own goal and Bryan Mbeumo’s strike put the home side ahead twice, but they were pegged back by Lyle Foster and Jaidon Anthony’s goals.

‎Jaiden Cullen inadvertently nodded into his own net when a rebound from Casemiro’s header hit him on 27 minutes, but Burnley rode their luck thanks to profligate finishing by United before Foster slotted home the equaliser on 55 minutes.

Mbeumo fired home from a cutback inside the area to restore Man United’s lead two minutes after, but Anthony bundled home on 75 minutes thanks to kamikaze Man United defending for 2-2.

‎Amorim’s side were staring at another draw until a needless shirt pull on Amad Diallo won Man United the penalty deep into added time, allowing Fernandes to seal an unlikely victory.

Man United rose to ninth place with four points, while Burnley slipped to 11th position with one point less.

In other matches, Chelsea controversially defeated Fulham 2-0, with VAR ruling out the visitors’ early strike before Joao Pedro gave the Blues the lead after the allotted added time in the first half. Another controversial VAR intervention awarded Chelsea a penalty, allowing Enzo Fernandez to seal the win.

Tottenham, however, lost their first match of the season with a 1-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, while Jack Grealish-inspired Everton held on for a 3-2 win away at Wolves.
