Gabriel Magalhães scores a late header to give Arsenal a 2-1 win over Newcastle
Gabriel Magalhães scored a late winner to complete a 2-1 comeback victory for Arsenal against Newcastle in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
The thrilling, drama-filled encounter saw the Gunners score two late goals to gun down the spirited Newcastle, Mikel Merino cancelling Nick Woltemade’s first-half lead before Gabriel’s late heroics grabbed all three points for the title challengers.
Mikel Arteta took his side to Newcastle hoping to capitalise on Liverpool’s slip-up on Saturday, but they saw a penalty overturned by VAR early on before falling behind to Woltemade’s header on 34 minutes.
Arsenal improved in the second half and turned on the burners late in the game, eventually levelling the match through Merino, a substitute, who headed home a short corner kick routine for 1-1 on 84 minutes. Another corner kick led to the winner, with Gabriel rising highest to head into an unguarded net six minutes into added time to seal all three points.

Arsenal returned to second place with 13 points from six matches, two points behind leaders Liverpool.
Elsewhere, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey could not prevent Aston Villa from securing their first win of the season as Fulham lost 3-1 at Villa Park. Both Nigerian internationals started the match, while Samuel Chukwueze was an 80th-minute substitute.
